"Out of Touch" // Squeeze

1. This song is in the movie, In a World…  I only know this because I heard the opening notes as I flipped past the channel, and then I couldn’t find it when I backtracked, so then I had to look it up to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating because no one uses Squeeze songs that aren’t off the Singles: 45 and Under collection in their movies. NO ONE.

2. I feel like if there’s ever a game show where you have to guess the first 5 seconds of a Squeeze song, I’d not only be the winner, but the only applicant.

Another great Kinks b-side - the tale of a girl who runs away to London.  Leave it to Ray Davies to paint the bleaker picture of Swinging London.

"What’s Wrong" // Sweetwater on Playboy After Dark, 10.23.69

This entire clip is so much of it’s time, it actually hurts. The clothes. The lyrics. The fact that there was a show called Playboy After Dark. At least the audience are into it, so that’s a plus.

They’re a flute band, but I feel like they’re balanced out by their cello player, so it’s okay. Plus, the lead singer was in some terrible car wreck that severed her vocal cords and left her with brain damage two months later, so it’s kind of sad to watch.

VH1 made a movie about them, but I refused to watch it because they messed up the ending on the Monkees movie so bad, I raged about it for days.

Shocking Blue - Send Me Postcard (1968)

World Cup 2014 match up - Netherlands v. Mexico

I’m in a bit of a quandary here in terms of the match - Arjen Robben is one of my favorites, but I teach at a High School and live in a city where El Tri are big.  It would be great if Mexico moved on, but at the expense of Netherlands? As to the song for Netherlands - everyone knows Venus, and probably Love Buzz (there’s a cover I’m told), but this song is darker and far wilder (if not more “shocking”)
